How Do Anti-Theft Alerts Work? 

A volumetric alarm activates automatically after the driver has locked the car. It allows the vehicle to detect theft attempts. However, you can decide to install the volumetric alarm or not.

The alarm activates when someone tries to steal the car and honks for up to 30 seconds. Hazard lights also begin flashing for about five minutes.

Every car owner receives a notification by mail or a push notification on their smartphone. This tells the driver that someone has been trying to steal their vehicle.

You can see a visualisation of the event on the My CUPRA App. The information  includes why the alarm went off and the time.

Benefits of Activating Anti-Theft Alerts

Here are some of the benefits to activate anti-theft alerts:

Taking appropriate action 

When someone attempts to steal the car, you receive an alert on your smartphone or email. You can go and check where you left the car. Alternatively, you can call law enforcement and report the incident just in case the culprits are still on the scene.

Preventing car theft

The system sets off an alarm when someone attempts to steal the car. It honks for about 30 seconds and the hazard lights flash for about five minutes. The thief is likely to halt their actions and take off to avoid getting caught in action.

Additionally, the honking and lights attract the attention of passersby to see what’s happening to that particular car. Thieves are less likely to stick around when they are attracting attention.

Access to event history

The My CUPRA App stores information about the history of the event. You can check the app to see why the alarm went off and the time. This comes in handy when filing insurance claims or reporting the incident to authorities.

Insurance discount 

Allowing anti-theft alerts is proof that you took measures to protect your car. Your insurance company is more likely to give you a discount when buying or renewing a policy for the car.

Even if the car is actually stolen, the insurance company will settle the claim seamlessly. This is because the insurer will have proof that you had taken a step to prevent the theft.
