CUPRA Born Efficiency at EnBW
CUPRA has rapidly established itself as a preferred choice for professional drivers. This is evident at EnBW, one of the largest energy supply companies in Germany and Europe, where one in five of the employee cars is a CUPRA Born.
"We chose the CUPRA Born because of its cost-efficient electric driveline, its performance, and its design" says Norman Scheck, Team Manager of Mobility Management at EnBW.
EnBW’s Transition to a Zero-Emission Fleet
EnBW, a leader in renewable energy, is transforming its fleet to align with its commitment to sustainability while enhancing operational efficiency.
"EnBW has two fleets," explains Scheck, who leads a team of 21 and oversees mobility planning across four locations: Biberach, Kesslingen, Karlsruhe, and Stuttgart. "We supply what I call the emotional product – the car – and provide advisory services regarding mobility concerns."
The company’s dual fleet system includes:
The Classic Fleet: Nearly 4,000 vehicles, encompassing trucks and transport vehicles, of which 20% being battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 10% plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).
The Employee Fleet: 1,800 fully electric cars for leasing, with 20% being CUPRA Born.
Why EnBW Chose the CUPRA Born
Several factors contribute to the integration of CUPRA Born into EnBW's fleet.
According to Scheck:
"Besides the ecological aspect, the starting point for us is the dealer expertise, excellent customer service and a reliable network that ensures quick service turnaround times and minimal lead times".
Scheck highlights additional advantages:
Energy Efficiency: Offers the necessary range for daily operations.
Practical Design: Ample space and durability for rigorous use.
Urban Adaptability: Price-performance ratio, handling, and manoeuvrability, including the turning circle, are ideal for city driving.
Charging Capabilities: Supports both AC and DC charging for convenience.
Future Fleet Expansion
The CUPRA Born has proven versatile for EnBW’s mobility needs, such as the frequent routes between Stuttgart and Karlsruhe, typically covering an annual mileage of 15,000 to 20,000 kilometres.
"The application profiles vary and we find it perfectly suited as a pool vehicle for short-term mobility needs", says Scheck. Looking forward, EnBW plans to:
Add 200 new CUPRA Born cars to its employee fleet.
Implement a telematics system for pool and company vehicles.
"The CUPRA Born is proven to be a very popular choice", Scheck adds, emphasising its role in achieving climate neutrality for its passenger cars well before 2030.
Developing a Comprehensive Charging Infrastructure
To support its electric fleet, EnBW is expanding its charging network:
Fleet Charging Points: Over 100 locations with 1,000 charging points installed, including load management.
EnBW HyperNet: Aiming for 30,000 fast-charging points by 2030, supported by an annual investment of 200 million Euros.
EnBW mobility+ App: With 2.7 million downloads, the app simplifies EV charging at over 600,000 charging points across 17 countries.
EnBW’s subsidiary, ChargeHere, provides scalable charging solutions for businesses, ready to use within 100 days of order, powered by green electricity.
Renewable Energy Integration
EnBW powers its operations with renewable energy, including electricity generated from solar and wind farms. For example:
The EnBW Baltic 2 Wind Farm, with 80 turbines, produces 1.2 billion kWh annually, saving 900,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
These efforts solidify EnBW’s role as a pioneer in Europe’s energy transformation.
